About
Sheila is an Irish artist based in Olhão, Portugal.
She works in abstract painting, using colour, layering, and surface to build lively, evolving compositions.
Working primarily with acrylic & oil on canvas, paper, and wood, her paintings develop gradually through repeated layering and reworking. Paint is added, removed, and adjusted over time, leaving visible traces of the process. Bright colour and pattern create movement and visual rhythm across the surface.
Earlier work in experimental film and moving image continues to inform her painting, particularly her attention to rhythm, pacing, and visual balance.
Buckley received an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London.
Alongside her own practice, she runs an artist studio and self-initiated residency programme in Faro, supporting research-based exchange and maintaining ongoing connections with the International art scene.
